Only Lazy People Try To Make Money At Home!

Huh? Did I lose my mind? Am I smoking that “stuff”? Aren’t I the one always telling you can make money at home if you’re willing to try different thing. Yes, I’m that dude. But I have to come clean, I’ve been leading you astray with some of my advice. Please don’t get angry with me. I sincerely thought I was being helpful. But in hindsight I was doing you a disservice. Please allow me to explain myself.

Any of my loyal subscribers know that I always encourage them to “try” various work at home opportunities and to not limit themselves to data entry or typing. In fact you might get the impression that data entry and typing were real people that robbed me or something, the way I talk badly about them. lol

With that said, I do still stand by part of my advice in which I encouraged you to diversify your sources of at home income. However, where I’ve failed you is that I always say you should “try’.  Unfortunately, trying provides an option of not taking action. When someone says I’ll try something, it means that there is a 50% chance that they will or will not do something. When it comes to working at home and being successful, I don’t think the word “TRY” should be in your vocabulary because the fact of the matter is that when given the choice people won’t try especially when it comes to work at home. They’ll think of every reason in the book not to act on a perfectly legitimate work at home opportunity. But they’ll also be the first to complain that they haven’t been able to work at home.

Most of the people I know that are extremely successful didn’t “try” anything, they were do’ers. An opportunity came their way and they didn’t have the attitude “Well I’m going to give that a try when I start making money. Or I’ll give that a try in a few months, or I’ll give that a try when the moon aligns with the sun.” Trying is for people that aren’t serious about making money. Successful people have the attitude I will do and there ain’t no more to it!

Now look, we’re all guilty of being “Triers” instead of “Do-ers”. For years, your fearless work at home leader was a full-time “Trier”. And for years I couldn’t successfully work at home. I had a full time job that took me away from my loving family for 8+ hours per day. So I’m not sitting here in my ivory tower passing judgment on you. I’m saying this as a person that’s been there and still sometimes visits that old “trying” neighborhood. In fact let me tell you a recent story of my visit to the old “trying” hood I grew up in.

How “Trying” Cost Me Thousands of Dollars!
As some of you may know, I make money at home doing affiliate marketing. It’s the only real work at home opportunity I’ve ever done that has allowed me to support my family and make thousands of dollars per month. With that I’ve been struggling with an element of affiliate marketing known as pay per click advertising. PPC means pay per click. So for instance if I wanted to get visitors to my site looking for red shoes on Google.com, I would pay Google something like $.05 cents. So how PPC works is that I would only pay Google, if the visitors clicked on my ad when they searched for red shoes. Sounds easy enough right? But trust me it’s a little more involved  and has other factors to consider which I didn’t really understand but became so easy after some training.

Needless to say it was a hurdle I’ve had for years. And like so many of you, I kept saying to myself, “I’m going to try it again as soon as I master this other marketing technique.” Then it was “I’ll try it when I quit my job because I’ll have more time.” Then it was “I’ll try it after the baby arrives and I get settled in.” You can see where this was going. This might even sound familiar to you when it comes to work at home opportunities. In any event, something finally snapped in me. I thought to myself, for the most part anytime I’ve actually done something rather than trying it, I eventually succeed. Sure, sometimes it took years to succeed but nonetheless I tended to succeed. So I said screw it! I sat myself at my desk and decided to start my first ppc campaign since acquiring some additional knowledge about the subject matter. And yes, I practice what I preach. I continuously invest money in my education which fortunately can be done online, reading books and watching DVDs. So in any event I jumped in head first with the PPC stuff. To my surprise I did way better than expected. A lot of it had to do with the training I applied. Now I’ll be honest even though I did better than I expected, I still managed to lose some money on my first PPC campaign. But not as much as I did a few years back.

So I had to remind myself that it was still a silver lining. I could have easily just said, damn I’m going to give up because I lost money. But no I kept at it because although I lost money overall, I was able to see that I could make money using PPC if I just fine tuned somethings. Fast forward to a week later and Eureka, I wasn’t losing money anymore. I was actually making money.  I actually made over $300 last week just with doing PPC stuff!

Now what peeves me and why I say trying lost me thousands of dollars is that I failed to act on this opportunity sooner. Instead I kept making excuses as to why I shouldn’t act and let other things distract me. If I would have actually acted years ago, I am certain I would’ve have retired from my job sooner. I probably would have also been a millionaire by now. But there is no use in crying over spilled milk. Now that I have acquired and mastered this new way of making money, it will lead to many more opportunities for me to make money in the future.

But ultimately the point of this story is that I didn’t try. I acted! And despite failing at first, with the right attitude I pressed on and now I have a new legitimate way to make money from home. By the way if you’re interested in learning how to make money with PPC, I learned it with WealthyAffiliate.com. It’s something I really recommend to everyone interested in making a LARGE income from home. But don’t be like me! If you sign up, actually take the information you learn and act on it.

What You Should Do Now!
So that was my little story. But here’s what I want you to do when it comes to conquering a “trying” mentality, the first step is acceptance. Accept the fact that you’ve been doing it wrong for all these years by “trying” things.

Once you’ve accepted responsibility for that, there is no need to harp on it. Dust your shoulders off, stand up straight and make a change. When you read something here on this blog or other sites that sounds legitimate and can make you money at home, make it a point to go and do those things. Don’t try them! Go and do them! Obviously you should always do your research to ensure it won’t be a

Finally! Someone has put that tired old word to rest. I couldn’t agree with you more, the word “try” is an all to common scape goat that people use to make themselves believe that they are actually working towards a goal. Listen, if you want to make money online or work from home, don’t try, just go out and do it, you will find out how much easier it really is when you lose the “trying” mentality.

I am a work at home dad and couldn’t be happier, but for years I fell into this trying to make money outlook. Something didn’t work so let me try this again, but finally I decided that I was done with the trying and was just going to make it work and guess what, it did!

Hey thanks for the post, I really hope that people read this article, because it may be the best bit of advice that they ever come across.

    You’ve hit on the head.
I hope you’re right and people actually apply what’s being said.

It’s the one piece of advice I got that changed my life when I applied it instead of “trying” it. lol

Read the article, Dawn. the title was just a play on words. I’m just as guilty. I even placed a sign on my computer at the top where I could see it every time I sat down, but still didn’t apply what I’d written. Three little words, and I see these same three words were included in the article: “Just do it!” That was my new battle cry, and I did go beyond just trying at that time, yet, here I am, years later, and still looking instead of doing.

Hey, Eddy! Thanks for the article!

I have a question. With the Wealthy Affiliates program, is it the kind of program where it’s required to bring in a lot of people, referrals, to be under you like the Amway kind of deal in order to make money? I visited the site and read quite a bit of the material as well as reading the FAQ’s but didn’t see an answer for the question I’m asking. Thanks

    Hi Jaxxee,

Sorry for the delay. As you may have read, http://www.workathomenoscams.com/2008/03/10/if-you-dont-work-for-this-company-youll-kick-yourself-later/ I was stuck with shower duties this past week. lol

Thanks for chiming in on my lazy article and reaffirming what I was trying to get across. Anyone that’s been here for a while knows I’m about helping folks and not putting them down.

In terms of your question about Wealthy Affiliate let me direct you to a couple of comments I’ve made about it and affiliate marketing in general. But before I do, let me start off by clarifying some misconceptions about making money with referrals.

Personally I’ve never joined Amway so I can’t say much about them. But I have been involved in one or two home based business opportunities where you were required to buy products and dupe your family and friends in to buying these products as well.

I hated programs like that and never did well. I think it’s far easier to make money referring people to things that they want already and that’s what affiliate marketing is all about and how I earn a living from home. http://www.workathomenoscams.com/freedom

It’s not about forcing or tricking your family into buying products they don’t want or need. It’s about helping people find information, product or services they want or need.

For instance I just posted a video http://www.workathomenoscams.com/2008/03/10/if-you-dont-work-for-this-company-youll-kick-yourself-later/
about MySurvey http://www.workathomenoscams.com/mysurvey which has been a company I’ve worked with for years that has a good standing with the BBB. I’ve recommended this company to countless people that have asked me for a legitimate work at home company listed with the BBB. I’ve done it on my sites or on other sites where people have asked for legitimate work at home opportunities.

Now in addition to actually believing in MySurvey and actively making money from it, I also happen to get paid when I refer other people to it. So it’s a win win for me and others. I get paid to help people find what they want and that’s what good affiliate marketing and referral programs are about.

So please don’t let a bad experience with Amway or any of these other companies have you assume that making money by referring people is a bad thing. It’s not, especially when you’re doing it the right way.

So with that said, that is what wealthy affiliate is teaching you. It shows you how to make money with affiliate programs which is just a fancy way of saying getting paid to refer people to stuff. Now again keep in mind you’re not forcing people to buy overpriced products. You’re giving people exactly what they’re asking for and they really go into depth about how to find these people and providing them with the information, products or services they’re asking for.

I provide more details about affiliate marketing and wealthy affiliate in the following comment:

Now that I think about it, I am one who is always saying I will try that once I see that I can make money from it, but instead of coming back I bookmark the site and never end up doing anything with it. I will take your advice and go look at some of the articles and actually do something and stop bookmarking stuff and forgetting about them! I think what it really is though, is that a lot of people are in such a hurry to see money pile up that they don’t want to read about it and learn how to make the best of an opportunity, instead they would rather do one thing see if makes money and if not go to the next. That’s how I was anyways. I’m getting closer just by reading and taking advise. Now I just need to start DOING things and not TRYING. Thanks for the advise!

    Hi Carrie,

I’m sure you’re not the only one guilty of bookmarking something and not coming back to it. I know I’ve done my fair share of that as well. But the point is you recognize the behavior and you’re working on fixing it.

That’s the first step. Many people will read that article and ignore it. But only a few will actually apply it and I guarantee those are the few that will actually succeed and work at home.

So I’m very happy that you’ll be part of that elite circle Carrie. Keep up the good work! It really makes me happy to see people really taking the advice I give to heart.

Sometimes I feel like I’m preaching to empty room. lol

Enjoyed your article Eddy, couldn’t agree more. There is something that happens inside of us when we change from saying “try” to “do”. Keeping the word try as an option gives us a way out. Most successful entrepreneurs succeed in spite of something rather than because of something.

I have been self-employed for over 30 yrs. Brick & mortar for most, direct internet more recent. I have found the principles the same though. What surprised me most has been the similarity between good brick & mortar or traditional business and internet in the area of relationship. Trust is earned in both arenas, and should never be violated. First glance at internet business had seemed to be without that depth. Have been very pleased to find these similarity’s present online as well.

    Hey Robert,

I view business whether its on the web or a brick & mortar like building a home or office building. No matter where it’s being built you need a strong foundation otherwise it comes toppling down.

Relationships is the foundation of any good business, period. And you’re a testament to that because you have the experience of off line and online business.

It took me several years to realize. I’ve had so many online business since I was in highschool and I’m 30 something now. And its only in the last few years it really hit home that relationships were really the key.

And the funny thing is outside the web, I was always known for having good relationships with people. Even in my old job they would put me on assignments dealing with tough customers or business units because they knew people tended to like me. But for some reason, for years I never really applied that to my online businesses. But when it finally clicked that I should it has made a world of difference.

So I totally agree with your Robert. I know it’s helped me with dealing with my loyal subscribers, visitors and other website owners. So thanks for sharing that insight.

It’s something that anyone thinking of starting any business no matter where they are should keep in mind.

There are a lot of fast ways to make money. But building a long lasting, successful business requires putting in the effort to build lasting relationships.

I, myself, am like Dawn. I am disabled with amputations done to me, and I can no longer do any type of work that i previously did outside my home. I am living on $424.00 a month from the government and try to make ends meet. I am looking for work-at-home jobs, but it is getting as bad here then it is outside the home. Some job’s want to do you the same things that ones outside the home are doing. You now have to get credit check in order to work now??? What does my credit have to do with working? Are they saying that only people with good credit should be allowed to work? It would seem to me that those with the bed credit who are forced to work from home would be more inclined to work better at keeping a job then someone who has good or perfect credit. Is there any work at home jobs that can help out people in my situation? Even we that are disabled should be allowed to work if we can. It almost seems that they don’t understand how hard it is to live on the amount we are given, with other’s depending on us.

    Hi Damico,

Thanks for your comments. First and foremost, I want you to look at the article on the following page:
    http://www.workathomenoscams.com/2008/01/23/work-at-home-for-disabled/

There are companies that specifically hire good folks like yourself with disabilities to work at home. They’re legitimate and don’t charge you anything.

In terms of credit checks, that’s common in many work places. I know I was shocked by it as well. I couldn’t understand what my financial well being had to do with my work ethic. I know some people have just made mistakes in their pasts with finances but it doesn’t mean that they can’t work hard. So I agree with you. I think it’s B.S.

But this is the world we live in, we’re be judged by the craziest things:
    http://www.workathomenoscams.com/2008/02/25/your-email-address-and-working-at-home/
    http://www.workathomenoscams.com/2008/03/13/lost-job-to-myspace/

But we all know life is unfair sometimes. However we
always have two choices, roll with the punches or try to make our own way. I rolled with the punches for many years and it was frustrating then I found my way out. So it can happen if you put your mind to it. And from what I can tell from your comments your mind seems to be working just fine! =)

So I hope this helps a little.

If you take this article to the fullest contents of it and read it over, at least daily, it will stick and the trying will change to doing. I’ve read many positive thinking and business mind setting books and this article has to be placed in the top three along with those books. if this article was published it would definintely be a best seller. I’m happy to see someone else out there that agrees with my sentiments in this article. Honestly it really does hold true in any part of one’s life.

Once I applied that mindset along with taking action, things really changed for me. And I’m happy to say it just keeps getting better.

It such a simple concept but I think the skeptic in all of us just can’t grasp that such a simple change can make a world of difference.
