Social Work Jobs

Social work is a type of profession that essentially studies humans, their behavior, and how they work together. Individuals in this field typically study social work in college and many have an advanced degree in the field. The basic idea behind social work is that by looking at how people interact, we can make their lives better. Social work looks at all races, economic status, and class to find ways to make everyone’s life better.

There are a large number of people working in the social work field who are considered a professional social worker. Those workers have a Bachelor degree in social work from an accredited school and many go on to receive an Master’s degree in the same field. This is usually known as an MSW or MA. These individuals can also receive their DSW or Ph.D. in social work, if they wish to continue their education.

While the majority of people working in social work have some type of degree, there are many who have only a basic degree or never attended a higher learning institution. These individuals typically work in the nonprofit sector where they help individuals in a variety of ways. They may evaluate the situation, take reports on problems, and help those suffering find a possible solution. There are also those without a degree working in health centers, shelters, and other areas in a social work way.

A large number of private and public organizations employ social workers. Nursing homes and hospices hire these workers to help with patients and families of those patients. Job centers, food banks, homeless shelters, and other poverty related organizations also use social workers. Social workers can also work in health centers, and in case management at a child welfare organizations such as adoption centers and foster care programs.

Social workers also work for organizations that help abused victims. They may also work in clinical settings and/or laboratory settings where they organize research findings and look for solutions to a common problem. Others work in areas of counseling, forensics, and psychology.
