Weekly Work At Home Recap 7-30-2010

Help Wanted

Guess who's back?

The last two weeks or so I've been missing some important women in my life. First my wife and daughter went on their yearly "YaYa Sisterhood" vacation get away to Florida. Most of you women should get the YaYa reference. Dudes it's basically a reference to a chick flick about women bonding and probably a movie you would never see unless dragged to it kicking and screaming. Well all the women in my wife's family do their bonding by heading off to her aunt's summer condo where they basically do all the stuff that none of us husbands want to do. It's great for them and me. But obviously I missed them when they were gone. Fortunately my wife and I both have the new iphone and did video chats every day so my princess wouldn't forget her daddy and so I could undo any man hating brain washing that was happening in my absence. lol

In addition to losing my better halves for a week I also temporarily lost my two virtual assistants that help me run both my sites. They do all the dirty work behind the scenes that make the sites useful to you folks. Some of you may have noticed the lack of job leads during their absence.  As much as I missed them they were gone for some great reasons. One was moving to their new dream home and another one was having a beautiful baby girl! I always knew how important both these ladies were in my day to day operation of the sites, but when they were gone it really brought it home for me.

Ultimately I realized that the people that keep me sane and happy all happen to be some great women. So I just want to give them all a shout out and say in the great words of Jerry Maguire "You complete me."  lol (Thanks Denise, Callie, My Wife & Princess!)

Hopefully all of you have some great people in your lives that make you feel the same way. No one becomes great on their own. They always have help a long the way. I know some of you don't have that when it comes to this work at home stuff which we discussed earlier this week in my article Blood & Work At Home Dreams don't mix. If you can't get the type of support you need from people around you, try to seek it elsewhere. If you do have it, then appreciate it because not everyone does.  Just don't be an island. Trust me life is a lot easier in many respects when you have a great support system behind you. That's why I'm always pumping the concept of training to you and why my sites exists to help you folks find legitimate work at home options. When you go it alone, life becomes harder and in some cases dangerous. I'm very blessed to have a great support system around me and I hope that if you don't have one, you find it here with me and this blog.

In any event, enough of this mushy stuff. All this estrogen from my support system must be rubbing off on me.  Enjoy the return of our job leads below, I'm sure you've missed them!

Blood & Work At Home Dreams Don’t Mix!

So today I want to talk about something you may have probably experienced ever since you decided that you wanted to leap in to the wonderful world of working at home.  To most people when you mention work from home, 2 prevailing thoughts come to mind about this industry depending on the individual.

1. Scams.

Let's face it,  shady schemes are a reality of this industry. Scams out number legitimate opportunities 84 to 1 last time I checked. The odds are obviously stacked against you. For my loyal subscribers that actually READ my material, that isn't the case. Chances are these folks have watched my scam video, read the scams and comments listed on my scam page. Scams are rarely a concern for folks like us because we know to do our research and trust our instincts. But for people that just venture into this industry without this knowledge, the odds are in the favor of the con artist. So I can't really hate on people that think of scams when they hear the concept of work at home. It's totally justified.

2. Myth.

To a lot of folks the reality of working at home is often likened to big foot or free national health care here in America. It just doesn't exist. There is a large portion of the population that feels that if working at home was a viable option then everyone would do it. Or they also assume that since they weren't successful at it or don't know anyone that has been, it can't be a reality. I can understand how folks feel that way. After all we're all shaped by our experiences. As such it may limit our perspective about the world at large. So this is an understandable presumption.

Mother knows best?

Unfortunately most of these feelings regarding work at home are present in the people we love the most which are our family members or close friends. I remember the first day I made a couple of cents reading emails. Me being the bigger thinker that I am, had already seen the possibility of magnifying these few cents into the thousands of dollars I now earn. So I told my mom, I'm going to work at home and make some big money.

My mom being the hard working caribbean immigrant that she was, basically told me that I was crazy. I needed to do what all hard working Americans that are successful in this country do. Go to school and get a "good ass" job with benefits. Well if I were a different person, that conversation with "moms" would have ended my dreams of working at home. But alas along with a good value systems and advice, my mother passed down the trait of stubbornness. I've always been the type that wanted to prove people wrong. It probably had to do with some of my self esteem issues growing up. If someone told me I couldn't do something or couldn't have a certain girl, Lord was I determined to prove them wrong. The thing is I had strong resolution when it came to this mission. I didn't care if it would take me years to achieve my goal of proving you wrong. If I felt strongly about it, oh you were going to eat those words.

So when my mom told me that my dream was impossible, it might as well have been Medieval France when gentlemen ran around smacking each other with a glove to challenge one another to a duel. Oh it was on popping, Mom!

The reason I'm telling you this story is that many of you may not have the stubborn genes I have. 99.9% of you probably have family members and friends looking at you cock eyed when you talk about your ventures in the work at home industry. They snickered when you told them that you earned a few cents at ClixSense or InstantCashSweepstakes.com. They tell you you're crazy for getting your swag on on Swagbucks to earn that "funny money". They think your opinions are worth nada and can't even imagine that MySurvey would want to pay you for them. They're telling you Eddy can't be making that type of money he's talking about and is probably a drug dealer or one of those work at home scammers out there. I'm sure you've heard variations of all these things.

No disrespect intended, but….

Your family is like Willis from the 80's TV show "Different Strokes". They don't know what the hell "they talkin bout" when it comes to this industry. Look I'm not here to bad mouth your family or friends. If they're anything like my "moms", they probably think you walk on water and your farts smell like roses. Our family members truly do love us. But when it comes to work at home, I hate to say this but you need to treat them like most people do books. Ignore them.I know it sounds harsh but that's just real talk. Let me give you an analogy to bring this point home.

Ladies, if you're having problems dating men, are you going to get advice from:

A. That bitter girlfriend who's been a professional serial dater for most of her life and has never had a serious relationship that lasted longer than 6 months and thinks "men ain't sh@t"! Coincidentally this same girl friend has also come to the brilliant conclusion that the 50+ men she dated in her long miserable lifetime were always the ones to blame for the break up.

or

B. Your happily married girlfriend who has been in a few successful monogamous relationships and never had any problems finding a good man.

Hopefully if you have any good sense you will have taken the advice of girlfriend B. If not, you have a lot more issues to work out that are more important than landing a little ol' work at home job. But I ain't one to judge. lol (P.S. if you are girlfriend B, my bad…)

In any event, this is obviously an exaggerated example but it is very similar in regards to looking towards family members and/or friends who have never succeeded at working at home for advice or encouragement. The concept is foreign to them so you can't very well expect that they will be supportive. Bless my mom, I knew she had the right intentions for me. After all she was just trying to guide me towards a proven blue print that she and others around her had followed. But I just knew in my heart there was money to be made online and earning the few cents I did from reading emails was proof to me. So I had enough strength to push forward and obviously ya'll seen how that played out for me.

I'm man enough to admit it…

Were people right about the scams? Yes of course they were. If you know my story, you know the reason I created my websites was because I was scammed. But I turned that lemon into some pretty profitable lemonade and was determined to help as many people avoid that experience. It just happen that this passion was also a great way to make money. However imagine, if I would've listened to my dear mom. I would still be working for the man instead of being here sharing this gem of knowledge with you.

Great minds think alike….

Ultimately our loved ones tend to have our best interest at heart. But when it comes to this industry it may be the one time you may want to look elsewhere for guidance and support. Maybe it's visiting forums where other like minded people congregate. Or maybe it's a matter of hanging out on a work at home related blog that provides you with education while making you pee in your pants. (Hint, hint). It doesn't really matter what it is, but you need to surround yourself with like minded folks that understand your situation. This is especially the case for you brave souls that have decided to get into the affiliate marketing business like yours truly. For all Wealthy Affiliate University's imperfections, the one thing I absolutely love about their site is their member forum. It's always great to read from people that understand your day to day struggles or can appreciate your minor victories. When the rest of the world thinks you're speaking Greek, it's great to be in a place you can call home. It's sort of like that bar Cheers where everyone knows your name. Except in this instance everyone knows your joy and pain.

Hopefully this all makes sense and none of you want to beat me up because you think I was disrespecting your momma or any other loved ones. I just want you to know that I was where you may be right now with your family.

Fairy tale ending?

Let me tell you how the story may end if you follow my advice and push forward through the pain. One day you may be in the Bahamas at the world famous Atlantis Hotel with your family members. You're in a nice suite overlooking the water and your mother is an adjacent room with the same view. You head over to your momma's room which you paid for with that pipe dream she said you were on. You both look at the balcony and you tell your mom, you see mom. I told you I would be able to do this and I'm happy that I could prove you wrong and take you here. Your mom turns and hugs you and says she loves you. Then she tries to cop pleas about she always believed in you but just wanted you to be safe, blah blah. You then reply stop fronting mom! But I love you anyway.

Now your story may end differently but you get the point. Don't give up on your dreams because it seems like everyone else around you doesn't believe in it. Believe in yourself and be a stubborn ass and make it happen. I don't care what you use for fuel, but take action and make your dreams a reality. Because if I can do it, there is absolutely no reason you can't. You don't need to neccessarily find my path. You have options, it can be a work at home job, or some home based business. It doesn't really matter. Just do you and don't look to people who haven't achieved the success you want for approval or praise. Follow and surround yourself with people that have what you want and try to mimic and listen to them. After all they're where you want to be.

Well enough of my yammering on. Was this helpful to any of you? Have you been going through this problem? If this speaks to your experience, let me hear about it below…

Is InstantCashSweepstakes.com a Scam?

Have you ever watched the local news and noticed the polls they take about various subjects? Usually the topic is very serious and depressing. But most of the time we all answer them in our heads. Or some of us may be adventurous and actually visit the news site and take the poll there.

Now imagine if you could get paid for taking polls like that? Well you don't have to imagine anymore! I've discovered a site called InstantCashSweepstakes.com that has made this a reality.

A few weeks back I mentioned in a previous post that my buddy big Phil put me on to a new opportunity to make some easy money. I know that's the best type of money for many of you. So I gave it a shot and immediately made money within the first day. Granted it wasn't a lot but it was more than what I use to make with polls which is the mere satisfaction of voicing my opinion. That's cool but money is better.

I basically waited to write a review on it until I cashed out. You know how I do, show and prove. I don't make it a habit of personally recommending things unless I've given it a shot or researched it. Now that I have worked with the company for nearly a month. I'm ready to share it with you. So let's get in to it.

What is Instant Cash Sweepstakes (ICS)?

It's basically a marketing research company that pays you for taking silly and serious polls created by people like you and market research companies.  If you've ever taken legitimate surveys like the ones at MySurvey.com then you're familiar with the concept. Although with ICS the polls are very quick. Did I mention this is a FREE opportunity that doesn't cost a dime?

How does it work?

Just visit Instant Cash Sweepstakes about every 3 hours. They will have about 5 polls. Each poll consist of 3 questions. Take the poll and win tickets, coins or my personal favorite real money! Every 24 hours there is a drawing for $50 where everyone's ticket is basically thrown into a virtual pool. ICS then randomly picks a ticket and you win the $50. But let's face it not many of us will win the the $50 drawing. However you will win a few cents nearly once out of the 5 polls you take per visit. I've consistently won small amounts of cash every time I have answered 5 of their polls.

How much money can I make?

If you happen to win the daily drawing, you win $50! But I'll be honest with you. Like any real drawing or lottery the odds are stacked against you even with thousands of tickets. Trust me I know. I've been doing it for a month now and I haven't won the $50 daily drawing even though I have a gang of referrals. But I know that real people are winning the drawing.

However even without winning the big daily $50 drawing you can consistently earn a few cents a day by yourself or dollars like I do when you have referrals. From the various polls I've taken, the cash amounts I have won range from 01. – .08 cents per poll that I actually win.

Attention Negative Minded People!

Let me address some of you that may be sucking your teeth right now or think you're too good to get paid for something that's fun. (Loyal subscribers and my action takers can ignore the following paragraph. I already know you went ahead to sign up and are probably making money as we speak.) In any event, no you're not making lot of money with this opportunity! But it's not a lot of work either. You're literally taking a few minutes out your day to answer fun polls.

At the end of the day you guys know my mantra. Multiple streams of little income are better than NO income. Most of the people looking to make income in this industry are in the bucket with folks that aren't making money online. You can view this opportunity as a waste of time and continue to get more of what you've been getting which may be frustration and no money. Or you can change your perception and start taking advantage of an opportunity that is legitimate, fun, easy and making you money.

Either way the choice is yours. But please don't be one of those people complaining you aren't able to make money online and you need real money. It's a waste of energy because there is no action behind it.  It's no wonder the people I know that make real money will take it anywhere it comes and build on it. They're not running around complaining because they're too busy on their grind and turning cents into dollars.

How do they pay & when?

When you've reached the minimum of $2.00 you can request a cash out via paypal. I love this low cash out because you can actually reach it relatively quickly without any referrals. Once you've made the request they cash out whatever you have in your ICS account within 72 hours. But in my experience it was just a few hours after I made the request. So depending how consistent you are with this opportunity you could probably cash out within a few days of joining assuming you're earning enough money or have won the $50 daily prize.

Can I see how this works?

Of course you can. I've created a little video walking you through this whole thing just in case nothing I said in the previous paragraphs is making any sense to you.

As a matter of disclosure the video has been edited a number of times to show different aspects of this opportunity. So you may notice the amounts in my account will vary in different sections of the video. So don't think I'm trying to be slick and Jeidi mind trick you. I'm no George Lucas so my editing reflects this. Just keep that in mind as you watch the video since it was recorded over a couple of days to get the shots I needed to demonstrate how this opportunity works. Now that's out the way, enjoy my little bootleg production below.

Hope the video makes it a lot clearer for you. If you've seen enough and ready to go, just visit InstantCashSweepstakes.com and get your polling on!

Is this open to people outside the U.S.?

No, it's not. Sorry, I don't make the rules. But no worries visit our international work at home page for other opportunities that may be available in your area.

Questions

I'm sure you have them. Fortunately for you, nearly every site I recommend has an FAQ or help section that you can go ahead and read. If you can't find the answer there, they usually have a contact us link you can use as well. So visit: InstantCashSweepStakes.com and click on the FAQ link on the bottom of the page.

How can I earn more money with InstantCashSweepstakes.com?

Well aren't we greedy? Here are 6 ways to make more money with ICS.

1. Play Often!

You're allowed to sign in every 3 hours to take polls. So when you do the math that means you should try to login 8 times a day to maximize the amount of money you win in terms of the smaller cash prizes. Trust me I did this for a month and my smaller cents cash winnings happened each of the 8 times I would log in to take polls. The great thing about their site is there is an email reminder feature that you can opt for every time you've completed all the polls in a given session. If you check the send me an email reminder, in 3 hours you'll get a reminder to go back to the site. That has been a great feature because you know how busy you can get during the day working on your various multiple streams of income. Well you should know how that feels if you're following my advice. (wink) By the way, no they don't spam you!

2. Sign Up Bonus

When you initially sign up ICS gives you anywhere from .75 cents to $1.00 just for signing up. But that seems to be totally random. I have reports where folks didn't get this bonus. So I can't guarantee you will.  When I signed up I earned $1.00 so maybe I was lucky.

3. Video Polls

After a while of taking polls, you may be invited to a pro user status where you get paid dollars for taking video surveys in addition to the regular polls. I received $1 just for taking a minute video survey explaining why I should be selected for their pro user membership.  Then a couple of days later I was invited to take a video survey that discussed what I enjoyed about ICS. I'll be honest with you, I was a bit iffy about the video survey. I'm pretty shy by nature. Don't let the picture of me all over the website, my Facebook fanpage or my past news interview fool you. I really am a hermit at heart. lol So I had to eat my bowl of courage to give it a shot. I'm happy I did, because it was fun and easy money. I haven't received another video survey yet. I'm hoping I didn't scare them away. lol

4. Submit Polls

ICS encourages you to submit your own polls. If your poll questions are selected I believe you get 100 tickets to be used in the $50 daily drawings.

5. Converts

As you may have seen in the video listed earlier in this article, ICS allows you to convert your coins into tickets. You can redeem the coins for more tickets which ideally will increase your chance at winning the $50 daily drawing. I've done it a few times but still haven't won the $50 yet. But just because I haven't doesn't mean you'll experience the same bad luck. lol

6. Referrals

Oh you knew that was coming. Yes I'm going to sound like a broken record again. This company like nearly 90% of the legitimate recommendations I have made have a referral/affiliate program where you get paid to share the love about this opportunity. As you may saw in the video above, you basically win whatever your referrals wins which is super generous of ICS because that's rarely the case. Sites like Swagbucks match your referrals winnings but they cap it off after a certain amount. Instant Cash Sweepstakes on the other hand will match your referrals winning full 100% of the times. So as it stands if my referrals win for the rest of their lives I'm winning. If you do a good job, you basically have passive income even when you're not taking the polls. In fact, I'm actually making money right now with this as I'm babbling off about it.

Know why? As soon as I learned about this opportunity from big Phil. I jumped right in. As result I made some cash the first day and then I was hooked. Naturally I wanted to spread the love. So I hopped right onto my Facebook fanpage and told my fans about what I was doing. Within a few hours of that update I had a few people that joined and were already earning me money. I of course earned whatever they earned. I haven't stopped since then. I've obviously added links to my sites and I've told my sister and friends about it. After all, who doesn't want to earn easy money? So my suggestion is to refer people in any way you can. Obviously as a trained affiliate I have an audience of thousands at my disposal. If you can't afford to be trained in this business, then just refer some family and friends. Maybe throw up some flyers with your ICS referral link in it in your area. Any referral you can get will add up and make you some money and more importantly your referral will too! Everyone wins in that respect.

Cons

Now that I've sung the praises of this company, it's time to tear it back down to size. I'm just kidding. I don't have a lot of complaints about this company. These are just a few areas of improvements that I see. Hopefully the folks at Instant Cash Sweepstakes see this article. (I'm sure they will because Eddy knows marketing. lol)

In any event, here are the cons or things that should be improved.

1. Have a system like MySurvey or Swagbucks where you can redeem the coins for some various prizes like cash, or stuff. I would be willing to pay an upgrade membership for that.

2. Provide more banners and marketing material so we can refer people. Right now they only provide you with two options: a widget and text link.

3. Improve the poll widget. They give you this cool option where you can place a poll on your site or Facebook page. But it doesn't provide you with a lot of control of the size and look and feel of the pool. You can change the size but it cuts off the poll. So I would like to see a better one.

4. Instead of the $50 daily win, I say get rid of it all together and just pay us more per poll. Right now you may earn a few cents. But if they got rid of the $50 daily prize they may be able to pay us more.

5. Offer other payment options besides Paypal like checks, direct deposit or some of the other online payment processors. Not every country is accepted by Paypal so that eliminates some folks that would be willing to give their opinions as well.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

So is InstantCashSweepstakes.com a scam?

Obviously not if you've actually read this review and watched the video above. I think the biggest issue that certain people may have with this opportunity is earning cents rather than something more substantial. But for something as quick and fun as this, i don't really think it's a bad pay off. Ultimately this isn't an opportunity to live off. It's just another weapon in an arsenal of smaller multiple streams of income that I've provided you over the years.  Coupled together this stuff adds up as many of you have attested to.

Does this mean you shouldn't pursue higher paying avenues such as traditional work at home jobs or possibly a home business like affiliate marketing? Hell no! Opportunities like this is just a supplement to that stuff. What's great about these type of easy opportunities is that they can be started right away instead of hoping to land a dream job or waiting for your business to take off. Having some money coming in while waiting for those goals to take flight is better than having no money in my humble opinion. But what the hell do I know? I just work at home full time and started making my first dime doing stuff little stuff like this.

You can take my advice with a grain of salt. You can also continue to do whatever you've been doing and getting more of what you've been getting. But based on what my loyal subscribers and Facebook fans have been saying, taking action on this opportunity is a winning move. (Pun intended. lol) So if you're open minded and actually want to start making money online instead of waiting for it, visit InstantCashSweepstakes.com today and sign up. It's free and fun!

If you are one of my favorite people, you know the type that takes action instead of complaining, how have you been doing with this opportunity? Chime in and let us know. I'm sure many of you have cashed out and you too probably have some suggestions for improvements or making more money with this opportunity. So feel free to comment below.

What Work At Home Seekers Can Learn from Lebron James!

So this past week basketball super star Lebron James decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for greener pastures in Miami, Florida. The decision to me isn't really all that interesting. The man did what was best for him in terms of business and his personal goals. When team owners treat players like cattle and trade them from team to team without any concern for the players and their families, no one bats an eye. But when the shoe is on the other foot, it becomes a nationwide catastrophe. The hypocrisy is sickening to say the least. But you know me. I'm not one to dwell on the negative. I have actually found something positive out of this situation that you should consider in your own life as you pursue working at home.

Stop your crying…

If you've watched the news, you've seen how crazy the reaction has been to a decision about a game. lol There are literally people who were crying and basically enticing violence because of Lebron's decision. (Shame on you Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert!) For the city of Cleveland I can understand the reaction to a certain degree because their economy basically depended on Lebron and now that's pretty much taken a hit. So their reaction has SOME validity.  But everyone else just seems to be taking the whole situation out of proportion.

Haters

Well venturing into the work at home industry can yield very strong reactions as well from people in your own circle. Like in Cleveland some of the concerns may be valid such as the concern of you being a victim of a scam or you throwing away a good job for this so called work at home pipe dream.

Grow a pair…

Here's the thing you need to consider, sometimes you just have to "man" or woman up and just make the right decision for you regardless if it's an unpopular one. Because ultimately you can't please everyone and live your life for others. If Lebron James would have stayed in Cleveland and continued to fail at bringing a championship he would have been just as vilified as he is now for heading to Miami.  So either way he was in a catch 22.

You could choose to listen to the naysayers around you and continue to get more of what you've already been getting and not live your dream. Or you can take a risk on yourself and give this work at home thing a shot and see where it takes you. At the end of the day at least you can know you made a decision based on what you wanted to do and not what was dictated by others. It takes a certain type of character and personal strength to go against the grain. But the folks that do tend be the ones end up achieving greater things in life.

Time will tell all…

Success may not necessarily happen as fast as they want or hoped for. But sometimes because rebels have stayed the course they are rewarded for their belief in themselves. I don't know if Lebron's decision will pay off. However I have a strong suspicion that it will because he's surrounded himself with like minded and talented people. If you've read this blog long enough, you know it's what I'm always preaching you do in terms of training and such.  At the end of the day what I want you to learn from this whole decision is that sometimes it's really tough to follow a different path such as work at home.

But if this is truly your dream, don't let anyone stop you. Obviously you want to take your time to make calculated decisions. However let them be based on what's important to you. Don't let others dictate them no matter how much you may love and respect these other people. Otherwise you'll always be living for them and not your dreams. I don't know about you but I'd rather go out trying things on my own terms then never trying at all because it was dictated by others around me.

So that's my take on this "situation" about a stupid game. Ignore all the smoke and mirror issues being flamed here. Instead, do what I've done and learn from it. Because if you view it from the perspective I've laid out above, it may actually guide you towards work at home success.

Your two cents please…

In any event, what are your thoughts about my take on this and how it can be applied to work at home? Is there another lesson you see here? Are you just as disgusted as I am that we as nation can galvanize on such a trivial sports decision but not on major ones like the economy and holding Corporate America accountable for the mess we're going through? Feel free to chime in professionally and respectfully below as you guys always do.

Weekly Work At Home Recap 7-9-2010

Help Wanted

Yawn,

I don't know about you but these dog days of summer are really getting to me. It's been a hell of a time trying to stay productive. I just feel so lethargic of late. I like using that word because it doesn't sound as bad as saying lazy.

But the fact of the matter is that's exactly what I've been feeling. I just find that I want to sit back in front of the stupid box and just veg out. Last week I created that top 5 list of the things I hate about working at home. Well one thing I actually love about working at home is when I just don't feel up to working, I can set back and relax. I've worked hard enough on my business so that it's on auto pilot. That means it still runs and makes me money even if I don't feel up to writing new content for a while. That my friend is the beauty of working at home when you have a business not a job. Most of the time it's a lot harder than a traditional job, but you can't beat perks like this.

Last week, I also discussed how I'm trying to do a better job of balancing work and family life. So I've been making it a point to set aside days to do things with my favorite girls (wife and princess). We've been doing a lot of local activities such as visiting The Bronx Zoo and yesterday we went to a children's museum. I must say it's nice to step away from this screen and live the life I've worked so hard to build.

I encourage you to do the same whether you work at home or not. We all need quality time with our families or quiet time to ourselves. Otherwise what's the purpose of everything we're doing? I hope you heed these words and are taking advantage of the summer with your family. Obviously I will be.

In any event, here are this week's job leads. Good luck!

Top 5 Reasons I Hate Working At Home

When I worked for the man full time, I would often day dream about what it would be like to work at home full time. I imagined waking up in the morning walking around my complex listening to the birds sing, heading to the gym, then having lunch at my local park. Then I would come home and get a bit of work done. Finally I would cap the night by playing with my daughter and later snuggling with my wife watching TV.

It's been 3 years later and apparently my present reality and past day dreams aren't seeing eye to eye. To my shock I've discovered that working at home isn't neccessarily all that it's cracked up to be and I've listed the top 5 reasons why below.

1. Assumptions.

I hate that people think I don't work hard because I'm doing it in my boxers. Yes I don't have to deal with manual labor, commuting or office politics. But the fact of the matter is I actually work more hours now than I did working for the man offline. My wife can attest this. Apparently this problem isn't unique to me. There are actual studies that show people that work at home are far more productive than offline workers. Why? Well because most of the time we fail to adhere to the defined work day offline workers have.

For instance, I literally squeeze in work any chance I get. I'll work during commercials, bathroom breaks, eating, down time, etc. Whereas most people clock out at 5pm, I'm still on my grind until I hit that pillow. In fact it's 1:05 am and I'm writing this post. Keep in mind amidst all this, I have to work in time with my ladies (wife and princess).  So contrary to popular belief you may actually work more from home than you did offline. I know on the surface it sounds like you're just kicking back but in my experience my hours are way longer than most of the people I know.

2. Loneliness.

I don't mean to get all sensitive on you, but one of the things that I actually miss about working offline is the everyday interaction with my co-workers, "sight seeing" in the park with my boys, after work drinks, etc. I feel like I took a lot of that stuff for granted while being there. The truth is working at home full time makes you feel isolated and you become a hermit. Now for my personality this isn't such a bad thing. But even so, I do miss that human interaction. I've had to resort to Facebook and sites like Mylot to alleviate some of that loneliness. I also visit my ex co-workers from time to time. With that all said, would I trade being at home full time to be back to the rate race? Hell to the nah! I'm not that lonely and why I have a dog! But seriously I do occasionally miss that social interaction.

3. Taxes

Let me explain before you jump to conclusions. I have no problems paying my taxes especially when I see them going to work in my community. I live in the suburbs so it's the first time in my life I've actually seen my taxes really be put to good use. My streets are clean, the school systems are decent, the crime is low, we have nice parks, etc, etc. So I'm not opposed to taxes. I just hate the fact that I have to personally managed them. When I worked for the man, HR handled deducting taxes from my check. Yes it always hurt to see FICA take nearly half my check away. But eventually you just got accustomed to the process. Then at the end of the year you would get some of that money back.

But when you work at home, it's a whole other ball game.  Most people that work at home aren't employees. You're considered an independent contractor (IC). Basically that's a fancy term for you're on your own. (You can read about how taxes are handled for most people that work at home by clicking here.) Being an IC means I'm responsible for reporting my income to the Feds and paying them their money. This requires putting aside funds for Uncle Sam that I would usually be utilizing for cool things like gadgets or trips to exotic places. Although I do good enough as an affiliate marketer that I still get to enjoy those pleasures but I digress. Working at home also means keeping good records of my expenses, getting incorporated and having a CPA that really understands business taxes. Trust me when I say it's so worth getting incorporated and getting the proper tax advice from experts when you're working at home especially when you're making decent money. I failed to understand this concept initially and ended up owing more taxes than necessary because of it.  Now that I have the proper business entity set up and a great CPA I'm accustomed to this process and can pay my taxes with no issues. But boy do I do miss the days of not having to even worry about it. It was just a matter of cashing my checks and living my life. Now it's about making sure all my business expenses are on my AMEX so I have a record of it and to get my points in the process. You know I feel about leverage. lol

4. Juggling.

When I sought out the goal of working at home full time, it wasn't to become a clown. What I mean is that I didn't know that juggling various aspects of my life was a requirement to work from home. As I said earlier I work more hours now than I ever did working for the man. For me it doesn't feel like work because I'm doing what I love. I'm in control of my destiny and life now. My life is no longer controlled by some snot nosed manager that feels they're better than me because they have a title or went to a fancy IV league school. (No disrespect intended to those folks. lol) However because I really love what I do, I probably put in too many hours than I should. I always feel that I need to respond to an email or comment quickly. But I'm starting to realize the cost of this work ethic. Often times I'm spending time with my daughter or wife and I have the overwhelming feeling to look at my iphone, laptop or ipad to check my emails, comments or stats. That's not normal. But it is when you work at home. Those boundaries of time are sort of lost. I hate that I'm like this now. Ironically because I am this way, I can be at home with my family now. But I know it's not the quality time it should be. So it's something I struggle with and working hard to improve.

5. Whispers.

Finally I hate that my neighbors, acquaintances and even some friends might think I may be a drug dealer or  involved in some illicit activities. I never expected that being at home full time would have people wondering about my character. But apparently if you & your wife drive nice cars and aren't seen in the morning rushing off to work or coming home in the evening, people start wondering what the hell do you do for a living. lol Honestly I can't really blame folks. I would look at my neighbors cock eyed too if I noticed that both adults are home all day but seem to be doing very well. In the natural, the math doesn't add up. But instead of whispering about it, I wish folks would just have the balls to ask what I do. But alas considering I get to be home all day with my family, it's a minor inconvenience I can learn to deal with it. However it's annoying nonetheless.

So there you have it folks, the top 5 reasons I hate working at home. Ultimately none of this stuff outweighs the freedom of being self employed and spending time with your family (even if it's not exactly the quality time you want it to be). I know that I'm very blessed to be in this position. It's a wonderful feeling. I guess it's also the reason why I'm so passionate about helping you all help yourselves to achieve the same bliss. Trust me working at home isn't as glamarous as it may appear to be. I guarantee you'll discover things you don't like about it. But I'm confident you'll have far more reasons to love it than to hate it.

Hey if you work at home full time or part time, let me know what are some of the things you hate about it. Or if you don't work at home full time yet, do you think there will be anything you'll actually hate about working at home? Let me know your thoughts below if you have any.
