But seriously, despite my best effort to introduce you to the 'finer things" in life via other non-typing and data entry work at home opportunities. You guys are still persistently asking for the least available work at home jobs on the planet, data entry and typing!
Many of my loyal subscribers know how I feel about these jobs. I don't like them because so many of you have been scammed because you've limited yourself to them. Furthermore scam artist prey on work at home seekers that look for these jobs because they know people are so desperate to find them and aren't willing to act on other opportunities that can make them more money. Finally, I hate to sound like a "Negative Nancy", but there isn't a lot of availability of these jobs unless you're willing to make them for yourself like I did or to explore another version of them which I will cover below.
With that said I've done my best to provide you with the few available typing and data entry jobs by listing them at our work at home companies page. But alas, I still don't think that's enough information. You know I like to over-deliver. So How Do I Get Started With Medical Transcription?
Step 1: Get Training! I know that you think your current typing and data entry skills are the bomb! But trust me when I say medical transcription companies will not hire you without some form of training. So don't even waste their time or yours applying without exploring one or more of the training options. I searched high and low to find some that were affordable for you or offered financial aid. Questions About Medical Transcriptionist (Typist)?
1. Yes there are many available Medical Transcription work at home careers available but most want at least a year or more experience. So how can I get a job if no one will hire me without experience?
That's a great question and valid concern. I was able to find a training company that provides you all the necessary Medical Transcription training you need and provides job placement services to successful graduates. Apparently the Virtual Learning Center has relationships with certain Medical Transcription companies that are willing to hire their successful graduates without experience! So there you have it, you will have access to companies that will hire you just for being a successful graduate of the Virtual Learning Center. Their job placement center also provides assistance in terms of your resume and revealing to you how to start your own business if that's something of interest to you. So they really go beyond what many of the distance learning companies provide.
2. I just don't have the money it takes to invest in myself and medical transcription training. What can I do?
This question really hits home because I've been in the same situation. Unlike college where I was able to get financial aid, many of these home based training programs don't provide this. But to my surprise the Virtual Learning Center addresses this and provides its students financial aid & flexible payment arrangements so that whatever your budget is, they will help you get the training you need to start your work at home career as a medical transcriptionist. It's obvious that they understand the plight of the work at home seeker and are not just some company that's about making money. You can also go to your local community colleges to see if they offer any medical transcription courses and financial aid. Chances are if you can't afford to buy the training on your own, you'll qualify for financial aid.
3. I have years of experience with typing and data entry, why do i need to invest in medical transcription training?
Well with all due respect, your years of generic typing and data entry skills aren't a commodity in this job market anymore. Why? Please consider the fact that everyone uses a computer now, this means that they can probably type just as well as you. 10-30 years ago typist were an asset because it was just the opposite. Most people didn't have computers nor the need to type. So when typing needed to be done, companies scrambled to get a highly skilled typist like yourself because it was such a specialized skill. So that's the reality of your skill set. But with that said medical transcription is still a specialized skill so there is still a great demand for those professionals. I may know how to type well but I definitely don't have the skills involved in medical typing. So that's why we encourage people like yourself to get specialized in Medical Transcription. Your years of generic typing skills coupled with your newly acquired Medical transcription skills will truly make you an asset to a company.
What Are You Going To Do Now?
In any event, I hope this addresses the questions, objections and concerns that many of you have expressed or were quietly thinking. I really hope that I have brought home the point that chasing after fantasy generic typing and data entry jobs is illogical when you understand the reality of our computerized world and the fact that now nearly everyone can type pretty well. So with that said, if you're dead set on doing nothing more than typing, then now you know how to achieve this. But don't make the mistake of continuing to spend hours and hours searching job boards for generic typing jobs. This will lead to a number of things; frustration, desperation and possibly being scammed or mislead by info products. So save yourself the trouble and go after something that is actually available. Now if for some reason despite all the options I've provided to you, you've decided that you're not going to pursue a career in medical transcription, than you may want to look in to a non traditional way of typing at home. Please note that this work at home opportunity isn't a traditional typing at home job. Furthermore, it won't make you anywhere near the salary that Medical Transcription can provide. But it will make you some money and can be started now and with no specialized training. But don't expect to support your family with it. So you've been forewarned. Krystal, your comments are the very reason there is so much unemployment in this country. Why does the government allow outsourcing, then pay unemployment when people such as you get laid off. Then your unemployment stops, you still have no job, the companies are still outsourcing, the government is robbing Social Security to patch things up, and I could go on and on. Companies may be about making money, but it’s our politicians and those companies who are bankrupting us. Why make a minimum wage go up higher and higher if these employers turn around and outsource, so they don’t have to pay it? And why are U.S. companies being allowed to make their home headquarters in Switzerland, or thereabouts? If they’re an American company, they should be based here in America. We’re not allowed to get away with anything with the IRS, but a major American company can be based out of a foreign country? There’s lots wrong here, but I’m so happy to see these online jobs and the good job being done to help prevent us from being scammed. If there were more resources like these on-line jobs for actual U.S. Citizens, it would help the economy from being flushed down the toilet.
I would have to agree with Shannon about the MT’s work going overseas. I was a transcriptionist for 25 plus years at a local hospital and was laid off back in February of 2010 because of the work being sent overseas. They give cheap labor for what we were doing at a “cost” to the hospital. The hospital also had to hire “coordinators” to “look” over the reports that come back from overseas. Why bother?!?!?! I mean, USA should hire USA transcriptionists so that USA people will have jobs instead of USA sending overseas so USA people are unemployed, but overseas people are getting paid. Very bitter subject for me since I have yet to find a job that doesn’t contract overseas or use voice recognition. Is this the way of the future??? I guess so as USA is not helping USA anymore, they are helping overseas people so they can survive and throwing us out to the dogs!!!!

Thanks for sharing this with us. I can totally feel your frustration. The sad fact is that companies are about making money. They don’t really care about nationalism or helping their fellow citizens. To them it’s about the bottom line. That being said the way to address this issue is a matter of simple economics which is basically what is driving off shoring of jobs. If the government gives U.S. businesses incentives like significant tax breaks for keeping most of the jobs here, that would naturally cause many businesses to stay put. Or they can tax them heavily for taking jobs away. As someone that tries to help people regardless of their nation’s origin, I’m happy we can work with other nations to provide jobs. But I don’t want it to be at the cost of people here. Like anything in life there needs to be a happy medium. Right now we don’t have that. This country has become one of consumers instead of producers. We import everything but export our jobs. That’s a recipe for disaster which is what you’re seeing in this industry and across the board. But I think it can be fixed if we view the problem from a business point of view and provide solutions that make it sweeter for businesses to keep most of their jobs here. Because ultimately it’s about the almighty dollar for these companies.

I have enjoyed reading over your site, and have even earned a few dollars with Youdata already! However, I wanted to share some info about the MT world, as I have been an MT for two years now, and believe me, it’s a tough world right now!
First off, I went to a brick and mortar college for a year to receive my certification. After that, I was fortunate enough to land a job covering the weekends at a local hospital. I also managed to work PT for a national company, however I landed this job through networking, not through testing, which is usually required (along with 3 years minimum experience!)
The pay rate for MTs is not great these days. I started my first national job at 6 cents per line, and I am only up to 8 cents per line after two years. Work has been VERY SLOW, and a lot of work is being sent overseas and is also being eaten up by the invention of EMR (electronic medical records) and programs like Dragon that type what the user says. Electronic editing usually pays about 0.02 cents per line (ouch!)
I understant that those overseas also need to work, but I do not endorse sending medical records overseas, 1) because they are not bound by HIPAA as we are and 2) because the English language with all it’s euphemisms, phrases, etc., is hard enough, but then throw MEDICAL language into it, and records can easily be mistyped and therefore misread, resulting in dangerous consequences for practices and their patients. While we all want to think that doctors and nurses check and recheck, there have been instances where they go by the numbers on the report, and believe me, there is a huge difference between 50 mg of Lasix and 500 mg of Lasix (for example)
In other words, if you want to go into this field, make sure you do it out of love of the medical field, not as a way to stay home and get rich. In most instances you are treated as nothing more than a glorified computer, you’re expected to be available 24/7 (even if you have set hours!) and you usually end up with carpal tunnel (like I have at 23 years old!)
I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I just wanted to be honest and forthcoming, as this field is hard to break into and very hard to make money with. I have gone weeks before with only making $50 dollars, but I have had great weeks of $600-900 dollars. It just depends on the work that is available and who you work with!

Thanks for chiming in and providing such great insight on the industry as it stands now. I’ve been hearing a lot of the same sad news from other MT’s. For years this was such a consistent legit work at home option. But I guess that’s changed with the outsourcing and technical advances.
I guess like any type of career, folks will have to adapt, reinvent themselves or focus on the careers that are in demand. It’s definitely sad but I guess that’s how jobs play out sometime. But thanks for providing that insight. It gives folks something to think about!

I was actually very happy (and unhappy at the same time) to see your video and read whatever you wrote around it.
Well, I will start with the unhappy (just to have a happy end…) I’m un happy because I don’t think that I’m qualified for doing this kind of typing job, and because I discover that real typing job are hard or almost impossible to find. And now you will probably ask yourself, so what is to be happy about?
Well, for me it’s the fact that I will not be easily scammed while looking for this kind of jobs. I already became aware since a long time that most offers of this kind are actually some type of affiliate marketing and did not deliver what they promised (and certainly not in the way they promised – they’re not jobs) but as you said, because I wanted it so badly, I was still hoping to find a non scam typing job. So I’m happy to actually get to this page and be determined not to be cheated anymore.

I think I’ve made it very clear in the article above about my feelings about MT. Now it’s up to you to make a decision. There are always going to be pros and cons argued by both sides of the coin. I personally take the information with a grain of salt and try to find out for myself. This is of course after doing my research to ensure I’m not getting involved with a company that is a scam.
You can’t make everyone happy. I have some recommendations listed here:

But the thing about those people is they tend to be the ones that don’t make any money at all in this industry. But are always the ones complaining. I actually have been doing alot of reading on the WAU. This sounds like something I am really interested in. I was watching an infomercial for another program just like this…almost. I did like you say and Googled the man’s name plus scams. I was not impressed with what I found, but found the info on WAU on your site (i am coming back to your site so many times during the day now!) and think I would like to try it. OF course like everthing else, I am nervous and worried about investment and earnings. However, I really think this is something for me. They give very realistic information and expectations. From what I gather, it is all up to you? I do not have a lot of time to commit, but want to do SOMETHING from home and be good at it and make money doing it. I know you feel me. I can’t tell you how many people just ignore that scam video I’ve provided and ask me if something is a scam when they can figure it out just like me by watching the video. So applaud you!
WA is definitely a great resource if you’re willing to work hard and are in this career for the long term. I’ve outlined WA’s weaknesses in my review. So as long as you going into understanding that, I find people are better prepared to succeed with it. At the end of the day, just easy your way into this career. Affiliate marketing isn’t going anywhere and neither is WA. When you build up enough confidence and can dedicate the time then pursue it. Until then just continue to give some of my other recommendations a shot as you’ll still be able to earn money with them.

Eddy- I have been doing some heavy research on medical transcription while I have been home on maternity leave. Needless to say I have questions. I looked primarily at the school sites you recommended and a few I found on my own. How does one know which school will give them the best chance at making the most money? I have seen programs as low as $800 and as high as $4000. What makes the difference in these schools besides the bill that comes in the mail, is some offer specialized training. My second question is this: can a person expect to make good money with a basic transcription course or is the added expense of specialized training what recruiters are looking for? I am ready to go, but am really nervous about this opportunity, but the desire to work from home and be home with my children is very strong. Please let me know what you think about the schools and also how quickly one should expect to get work. Thanks! P.S.
