Amazon Flex DriversChances are you've heard of or used the car service Uber. It's revolutionized the way we travel. It's also helped many of us make money.

But if you're like me, you may not like the idea of picking up strangers to make money. Oh that sounded dirty. But you know what I mean.

Fortunately we now have an alternative because of our friends at Amazon. So let's dive into this Amazon Flex review. You'll discover how to get paid to drive your car without picking up strangers.

How Does Amazon Flex Work?

Most people know what Amazon is. Chances are you've shopped on their website or received gifts from them. They are one of the leaders in the online space because of the wide range of products.

Furthermore if you're an Amazon Prime member you know the benefits of FREE 2 day delivery. But for some customers, waiting for the next day delivery is too long. So Amazon has decided to test an hour delivery time using casual drivers like you and I.

When you sign up to be an Amazon Flex Driver you pick up and deliver products to amazon customers within your local area. There are no set hours for this job. Amazon wants customers to be able to get their merchandise within an hour, no matter what day of the week it is. So they provide different shifts to drivers.

Amazon started this program at the end of 2015 in Seattle. But now the program is available in Arlington, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas/Forth Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh, Richmond, Rockville, San Antonio, Springfield, Tampa Bay, and Virginia Beach.

How Much Money Can Be Made?

The rate of pay will range from $18 to $25, but you can only earn if you have an actual delivery. They don't say at this time as to whether or not mileage is covered, although you do need to be able to pick up a product and have it delivered to the customer all inside of any hour.

There is no guarantee that deliveries will be available during the block you sign up for, and the availability of times and schedules may change from week to week.

Did you know you can make money at home without having to drive around? If so, you can make a little extra cash taking surveys at You can also make money doing what you already do online like watching videos and visiting websites at, and But if you really want to earn a living running your own online business, check out My Best Work At Home Recommendation.

What Does It Take To Become An Amazon Flex Driver?

There doesn't appear to be too many crazy requirements to become an Amazon Flex Driver. Here's what you need to become one of the Amazon Flex Drivers:

  • 21 years of age
  • Access to dependable motorized vehicle. Unfortunately they don't allow on-foot or bicycle deliveries.
  • A smartphone to download the app they use to set up deliveries.
  • Submit to a background check.
  • You need a clean driving record.

If you're able to meet those requirements Amazon Flex will accept any person who has time in their schedule to commit to blocks of time. Unfortunately the company does not reveal how many drivers they are hiring in any given location. But if you're interested you can become an Amazon Flex Driver by clicking here.

Complaints and Concerns About Amazon Flex

Event though Amazon Flex is a relatively new program offered by an established company, there are some concerns and complaints to take note of if you want to take up this opportunity. It doesn't mean it's a scam but it good to be aware of these potential roadblocks. Because this opportunity isn't for everyone. Here are some of the reasons below.

You can't earn a living off this.

The word out on the streets is that reported earnings simply do not match up with reality. The Amazon Flex concept is based upon the idea of drivers signing up for blocks of delivery times.

This is great on the surface because it allows you to know exactly when you are to be available for making those dashes to and from customer locations. The problem appears to be that there are simply not enough deliveries to fill the time of drivers in each block.

This means you will by waiting and not earning any money. That kind of defeats the purpose of working for yourself, now doesn't it?. Hopefully as they expand their hour delivery too more locations, there will be more work for drivers. Time will tell. But for now, don't quit your day job or look at this for consistent income.

Wear and Tear

Obviously the idea of driving your own car is a benefit. It's even better when you consider you can make money doing it without picking up strangers.

But is it actually worth it from a financial standpoint? You have to factor in the wear and tear on your car. Furthermore you have to think about the money you're paying in gas.

When you do all that math, the money earned may not add up in your favor. So it's something to really consider.

You have to leave your home

Chances are if you're reading this blog, you're looking to work from home. Unfortunately the Amazon Flex program isn't home based. You will need to set aside blocks of time to leave your home to make those deliveries.

So if you wanted an option that was totally work at home, you can make a little extra income taking surveys at or doing what you already do online like reading emails, playing games and more at sites like, and But if you prefer making real money online working part time or full time, check out My Best Work At Home Recommendation.

Limited Delivery Areas

In order to make any money with this program, you must live in one of the following areas: Seattle, Arlington, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas/Forth Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh, Richmond, Rockville, San Antonio, Springfield, Tampa Bay, and Virginia Beach . This may expand by the time you read this review. but if you don't live in or near these areas then you obviously can't make money with this program.

Holla back

Apparently there have been a few complaints that the company is difficult to get a hold of. If this is true, you would literally be on your own. So this can create a problem is there is an issue that you need to have resolved – such as a discrepancy with your paycheck!

So Is Amazon Flex Legitimate?

Since a well-established online retail company is backing this program, it would be really hard to say that this opportunity is a scam.

While it is not a pure work from home opportunity, the program would allow you to make money on your own schedule in theory. But the problem appears to be that Amazon Flex has promised more than they can deliver. (Pun Intended!).

In other words they don't seem to have enough work going around for the available drivers. Maybe in time this will change. So you may just need to be patient while that happens.

But for some of you this opportunity may be a deal breaker because maybe you hate the idea of having to drive around to make money, or even the fact that you can't make a living doing this.

If that's you, there are other options to consider. You can make money at home taking surveys at sites like Again, sites like, and help you make money doing what you already do online like watching videos, reading emails, visiting websites and so much more.

  1. It’s not worth it.. I did this for a month and a half. The gas, toll charges and wear on my car outweighed the income. Not to mention being expected to deliver 60+ packages in 3 hour
Hours. They advertise 18 to 25 dollars an hour but you will really make less. I worked over my shift on several occasions due to amount of packages. It was a horrible experience.

    • Yeah,
I feel you. Amazon of course tries to take on every area of business. But this delivery part wasn’t really well thought out. They try to use the free-intern-labor model. Which doesn’t work in the long-run.
I came across Voyago which uses your social network to create trust and get packages from point A to point B. I’ve used it for months and it helps with my friends and family.

  2. I’ve been delivering with amazon flex for about 2 months now in the Inland Empire area of Ca. Although they tell you be your own boss & its flexible hrs, its really not. Yes they have to be available for the 2, 3, or 4 hr block offers they send you, however you may have to work overtime if you have alot of packages to deliver. And you don’t get paid to work overtime. So if you have to go somewhere like another job or dr. Appt. Right after your supposed block is over you will be late because they expect you to deliver all the packages they give you. They don’t care if your car is full & you have no views in your car to see either. All they care about it delivering. There is no corporate phone numbers you can call, you can only email service specialist. You also don’t know what area they will send you to until you get to the pickup station. So amazon flex isnt really flex at all..

  3. I have been a driver for 6 months, in Dallas fort Worth. In all its been a great experience this job is great for the person that all ready has a steady income. I work full time I have no issues getting shifts. There are two sides to flex. When you are hired you are assigned to one of them with out choice. Side one logistics delivery, delivering prime 2 day you are like ups out of your car. That’s where I work shifts are 3 or 4 hour blocks 18 hour.. you get paid the whole block even if it takes you 2… everything delivered by end of day. my husband works for the other side fresh/prime now/hot wheels he makes 18 hour plus tips, most blocks are 2 sometimes more sometimes less but everything is timed have to be delivered in the block assigned. Hot wheels is restaurant food delivery. I have found on the prime now fresh side it’s harder to get blocks so it’s great for just extra money. For both If you are assigned a block and you show up you get paid for it.

  4. Why is it that the drivers have to sit and tap on the offer screen to refresh it and wait for blocks to come up then you touch it and accept and then you don’t get it because you’re not fast enough but you sit at home for countless amount of time tapping on the stream waiting and trying to catch a block so you can work and make some money part-time we all understand this is a part-time job but if you can’t catch blocks this is not even a part-time job because you make no money because you don’t get any blocks

  5. Hello, I’m from San Antonio and it says that they have expanded to my area but it’s not bringing it up. Where can I apply???

  6. As of a week ago or so. The system of scheduling blocks of time has been changed. So severely, that you are lucky to make $200 per week. I would not waste my time.
