One of the things I quickly learned when searching for work at home is that work from home jobs isn't where you make real money. If you want to be able to earn a living online, you need to go where the demand is and that's internet marketing. There are a number of programs to help you learn how to do just that, such as the course offered by AWOL Academy. You have probably read the other online AWOL Academy reviews, but if you want to know the real deal including complaints, read on.
What is AWOL Academy?
AwolAcademy.com is an Internet Marketing, Education, and Mentorship Platform created by Keala Kanae and Kameron George in 2015. The company's headquarters are in Las Vegas, Nevada. Originally, it started as Project AWOL which was part of the MLM company Empower Network and evolved from there.
How Does AWOL Academy Work?
AWOL Academy offers courses that teach you the ins and outs of Internet Marketing. AWOL is short for “Another Way of Life”. The program teaches you how to optimize your marketing efforts online so you can make a significant income with your online business. The courses feature instructional videos on topics such as setting up a website, domain name purchases, lead generation, sales funnels, email campaigns, and more.
What Courses Are Available With AWOL Academy?
The company offers 5 main courses for you to choose from. Here is a basic rundown of each course:
Pro Academy: features step-by-step instruction on setting up a sales funnel with your own website, lead-capture pages, conversion tracking system, email marketing campaigns, and more. This program's price is $99.
Inbox Academy: Teaches you how to sell through email marketing and the strategies involved in getting your subscribers to open and click on your promotions and offers. The program's price is $297.
Conversion Academy: This shows you how to use storytelling and persuasive language to your advantage to engage your audience into action. This program's price is $997.
Traffic Academy: Discover how to get more targeted traffic to your website with customers who are ready and waiting to buy from you. This program's price is $997.
Masters Academy: Provides training on money management, strategic tax planning, and investments to help you maximize your profits. This program's price is $3,497.
If these start-up costs are too high for you, you have other options that can help you make money which is free. If you like getting paid for what you do online like reading emails, visiting websites, etc, you may want to check out InBoxDollars.com, Swagbucks.comandFusionCash.com. You can also earn money by telling your opinions at SurveyJunkie.com. It doesn't cost you a dime.
How Do I Start With AWOL Academy?
You can get started as a member by purchasing the AWOL 101 Coaching Package for $99 on the company's website. This is part of the beginner Pro Academy course. You will watch a short welcome video and create a profile with your contact information. You can then book a coaching call and get answers to any questions you have. Once you complete all these steps, you can then watch all the videos included in the Pro Academy course.
How Much Does AWOL Academy Cost?
The company offers programs ranging in price from $99-$3,497. You can choose the course you want depending on the individual needs of your online business. If the cost of these programs is too high for your budget, you may want to check out my Best Work At Home Recommendation.
What We Like
Good BBB Rating: At the time of this review, the company has a B+ rating with the Better Business Bureau with only one complaint in the last 3 years.
No Questions Asked Refund Policy: If you are unhappy with your purchase, you can request a full refund within 14 days without any questions asked.
In-Depth Coaching: You will receive access to experienced Internet Marketers to help you grow your online business.
AWOL Academy Complaints
It is hard to find a company without any flaws. No matter how hard a company tries, there is always a few complaints. Here are a few of the things I have found as not so good about the company:
Expensive Price Tag: The prices for the course are incredibly high compared to other similar courses online. If you want to learn Internet Marketing and build your own online business at the same time, then you should check out my Best Work At Home Recommendation.
Paid Advertising Focus: Most of the teaching focuses on paid advertising methods which means more out-of-pocket costs. This can be very risky and there is no guarantee that you will make any money this way.
Pushy Upsells: The company constantly encourages members to purchase higher cost courses and coaching packages.
Recruitment Push: Some previous customers state that there is more of a focus on recruiting others to join the academy rather than really helping you build your own online business.
Secretive Affiliate Program Details: If you just look at their public company site, it does not really explain in detail how you make money as an affiliate for the AWOL Academy program. If you are recruiting others, what is the commission? How often do affiliates receive payments? None of those questions have available answers from the company on its public website.
So if any of the complaints have turned you off, don't worry. You have other options. Sites like InBoxDollars.com, Swagbucks.com, and FusionCash.com will pay you to do what you do online such as visiting websites, watching Tv, downloading apps and more. And if you like sharing your opinion on things SurveyJunkie.com will pay you for your views.
AWOL Academy Alternatives
There are plenty of online courses and free information on the web to help you learn all about Internet Marketing. One of the best websites I highly recommend is Wealthy Affiliate and you can read all about it in my review. You can join Wealthy Affiliate absolutely free, no credit card required.
So Is AWOL Academy A Scam or Completely Legit?
AWOL Academy appears to be a legitimate Internet Marketing, Education, and Mentoring Platform. However, the courses are very expensive compared to other similar offerings. There is no guarantee that you will make any significant income from your online business with the program. The company does offer a 14-day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase.
Focusing on multiple streams of income is the best way to make money from home long term. AWOL Academy may not be the best option to help you achieve those goals, however. If you are looking for a more affordable alternative, you may want to check out my Best Work At Home Recommendation and my Work At Home Courses. Now that you have read this review as well as other AWOL Academy reviews, you should completely understand the program completely with what it has to offer. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the company so please feel free to post your comments below.

I attended a recent webinar from AWOL, but I also looked at the BBB and other reviews. Seems he wants $14,000+ for the full package, but he makes it sound like a lot less in the webinar. Sad how many people were jumping on the bandwagon only to later get a rude awakening.
I use a simple search and add scam to any online or work at home offer. It’s very rare that any of them pan out to be reasonably priced although most like to hide the true cost of the program until you have forked over plenty of money. My suggestion is always do the research before joining any company. I don’t mind paying for value, but a company should upfront how much it’s going to cost you if you go with the full package, and not try and lure you with small packages only to try and upsell you at each stage.
There are better and cheaper options out there; may take a bit more work, but based on the numerous scams I have seen in the last two days, it’s cheaper in the long run and better on your health.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree doing your research is key. It’s why we create articles like this to help folks with that and provide other options to consider. So I totally agree everyone should always do their research and pick the best companies for their needs.
This program is only for those who already have enough capital to invest. The upsells are just ridiculous. We can find most of the information online for free in today’s digital world, right?
Hey Jerry, I do agree the upsell pricing is aggressive to say the least. Yes, you can literally find anything online for free. But it’s not always worth hunting it down and trying to figure out what’s good or not. There is definitely a convinence in investing in a course, book or education that helps compile the information for you. How much that is worth will vary from person to person. And people should always explore their various options and pick what’s best for them.
I’m taking their $99 program now. It has a lot of good training to get you to know what you want and where you are going. I finished the surveys and other videos then went into the coaching which were the same surveys and videos again. I really would like to start doing the work without having to buy a lot of upsells. Can’t affordit right now.
AWOL actually does have a guarantee of how much money you will make in the first 90 days. I am not sure if this was the case when you did your review. They are also pretty clear that this is probably not for you if you are “just getting by,” but a lot of people pay a lot of money to get mentorship from successful individuals who are where a student wants to be. It would be helpful if you had actually been through their programs and could give an estimation of value based on personal experience and not inference (and not as an obvious attempt at marketing WA as well).
I haven’t seen anyone who has actually taken the program say anything but that it has added incredible value to their lives. I have seen a lot of people who have not taken the course be critical of the price and upsell, which is understandable, but that is different from being able to make a personal claim about the quality or originality of their content, because you haven’t participated in it.
I’m just writing this so that anyone out there like myself who is genuinely considering taking this plunge with AWOL (before their prices shoot up Nov 1st) can better look at these reviews from every angle.
I’m leaning towards the dive with them …
I love how reps of companies I review try to call me out for giving people other options that I know have personally worked for me. And then they ignore the real complaints I’ve listed instead of acknowledging them and trying to explain them. But keep attacking the guy that has a proven history of helping people avoid scams for over a decade. It’s definitely going to help you recruit more people.
I’m starting to feel like this a scam I paid for the 99$ and still haven’t received it in called the lady saved you do not get a confirmation number and sayed she going to send me the link and still nothing ….I’m tempted to call BBC
Well hopefully this lady sends what she promised you.
You are not taking into account the price of consulting and they offer hundreds of hours of live and recorded consulting. They have done amazing things for me.
I’m so tired of people wanting something for nothing. I’ve done every single course out there and while this one may cost a little more, they have a WHOLE LOT of extra stuff that I never got anywhere else. Ya’ll really don’t know what you’re missing here.
Uh, WA offers one on one consulting, live chat, and hundreds of hours training on various topics for a fraction of the cost.
Just because something is more expensive doesn’t mean it has more value. That said, if you feel it’s worth the price, then that’s great.
I agree that there are a lot of people out there that aren’t willing to invest in themselves and I think that’s a disservice to themselves.
But for those that are willing to do so, you have to find the price point that works for you. And fortunately sites like WA offer a free option so folks can decide if they want to invest more or not. No one likes to feel like they wasted their money. And you’re less likely to feel that way if you can sample what’s being offered.
This is a very good and accurate review.
I’ve been through the AWOL program (only through “Inbox Academy”) and think it gave me the start I needed. My next obstacle is better conversions, but I’m not willing to pay $997 when I know there are other programs out there that can provide what I need for half that cost (AWAI is the one I have my eye on).
They do (or at least they did…) offer the entire training package for $10,000 which comes with a $10,000 revenue guarantee within 90 days. A steep investment for the majority of people looking to break into this business but still a much better education investment than the traditional route.
With that said, AWOL does a fantastic job in helping lay a solid foundation for your Internet Marketing business. The included training in lead capture, email marketing and click tracking software is a major bonus. I can only imagine how much I’d still be fumbling around trying to put my funnel together without it.
I didn’t know about WA but it’s good that there are viable options available.
Thanks for the review!
Hello Eddy!
I found really interesting your article, I’ve been searching about Internet marketing for a while and I didn’t know about AWOL academy. Do you think that this academy is better than Wealthy Affiliate? Prices are significantly higher, so there must be an explanation for that price or perhaps they add something that Wealthy Affiliate doesn’t. I would really aprecciate your answer, thank you!
No, just because something is priced higher doesn’t mean it’s always better or offers more. In terms of how it compares to WA, I think WA obviously has a better price point and includes pretty much similar things and more. It all depends on the person’s needs. At least with WA you can try it for free and see if it meets your needs or not. So in that way I like it more. But it seems to be a solid option.
Hi Eddy,
Now that was a great review of Another Way Of Life! They sound like a pretty decent place to go and get trained and actually make a nice living from the training
However, when I seen those prices’s I was like – nope. Shame really. It was a really positive review but the up-sells do kill it for me.
I opted in for the notifications from your site so I am looking forward to more reviews as this is my thing online that I like to research.
All the best Eddy,
Regards,
Philip.
You’re welcome Philip.
Like you mention, the price tag of this program is far to high. Like many other internet training programs they try to sell a bunch of other things once you make your first purchase.
This is the great thing with Wealthy Affiliate. All aspects of marketing is covered by the monthly or yearly fee you pay for membership. The only other thing they offer is the Jaaxy keyword tool. This is not too expensive at 19 dollars a month and it is purely optional as they do offer another keyword tool free of charge within the Wealthy Affiliate platform. Kyle and Carson offers a lot for the membership price and they really care about your success.
I hear ya Jojo. WA definitely offers a lot for a monthly fee that other companies upsell for. So I agree there.
But how much money is people making with these programs? That is the question. There are no real numbers disclosed. Im looking to retire soon and want something to make some cash from home. I don’t mind paying the cash upfront but I need some real numbers. If 14K only gets me 1,000 back after following a program then its a deal breaker. Ive done the 99 AWOL and waiting to jump in next but need to see some real numbers. I am a positive person and always move forward but that doesn’t make me money alone. Its great for my being but not my pocket book
Hey Eddy with a y
This program looks VERY overpriced.. And I’m not so sure if I can earn that money back once I invested it. I was interested in the Traffic Academy program, but then I saw this crazy price, 997 Dollars! That’s too rich for my blood. So I’ll pass on it.
Greetz,
TheTourist
It definitely may not be in the budget for some folks. And it sounds like that’s the case for you.
Thank you for the honest review. I don’t know AWOL, but I know Empower Network (I even joined it). I have gone through many “make money online” programs that offer education, coaching, you name it, but they keep up-selling once their contents run out, or entice us to “higher price tag” that we become their buyers instead of marketers. It is very difficult to find reliable programs that show their real efforts to help others to become successful. I know Wealthy Affiliate, and they are truly one of them.
You’re welcome Kyoko.
Hey Eddy with a Y,
Thanks for this brilliant review. I do agree with you. Overpriced is exactly what i thought when i first saw it. I am with Wealthy Affiliate University. It is $49/month for premium membership and it is worth every penny. The community is awesome and the training and Website hosting is second to none. I now own three Websites, one new and two that I have been working on for a while. Best way to make money online that I have found so far.
It is great that AWOL has a money back guarantee though. Wealthy Affiliate has a free membership with a 7 day premium trial then you resume your free membership with the option to upgrade whenever you are ready. They do not have a money back guarantee though but I guess the 7 days free trial of premium membership followed by a lifetime free membership is enough for anyone to make an informed decision before going premium. Anyways, enough about WA lol, AWOL is not for me though and maybe not for anyone on a tight budget either
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about AWOL and WA. I think they both provide value but just in different ways and price points.
