FlexJobs Review: Is It A Job Search Scam or Worth It?
This blog is supported by sponsored links & ads. But “Eddy with a y” only personally recommends companies I trust and researched.
Working how you want, when you want, and where you want is a dream for many of us. With so many demands on our time, it would be nice to have something flexible that fits around our schedules. That's where websites like FlexJobs.com come in. You have probably read some of the other FlexJobs reviews online looking to see if it's worthwhile. We're going to cover the real truth down to the complaints in this review so if you want to know it all, read on.
What is FlexJobs?
FlexJobs.com is a website offering flexible working jobs from approximately 4,750 companies. The site was founded in 2007 by Sara Sutton Fell and is located in Denver Colorado.
How Does FlexJobs Work?
At the time of this review, the flexjobs website offers 55 career categories of freelance to full-time jobs ranging from entry level to executive status. Each listing is personally vetted by a real person who verifies the opportunity in order to eliminate potential scams. Members pay for access to these listings as well as resources and discounts from third party vendors.
How Much Does FlexJobs Cost?
At the time of this review job seekers can choose from three payment options when creating their account:
- $14.95 per month
- $29.95 per quarter
- $49.95 per year
All subscriptions provide unlimited job listing access, skills testing, discount offers, and job search tips and resources. You can create your own profile and personalize a portfolio with an upload resume and work samples. Subscriptions can be upgraded anytime. The company accepts PayPal and all major credit cards.
How Do I Start With FlexJobs?
Users can register for account on the company's website and choose a payment option that best suits their needs. You can then fill out your profile information and upload your resume and work samples to an online portfolio. You can browse through the job listings or use the Advanced Search bar to narrow down the criteria. If you are looking for only work from home jobs, you can choose the 100% Telecommuting option.
Each employer has their own method to how you should apply for their job listing. With some listings, you can hit the Apply For Job button which will send your uploaded resume and optional cover letter to the employer. Other times, you will be redirected to the company's website to apply. Or the employer may say in the listing to send your cover letter and resume to a specific email address. With all the job listings, you will be considered an employee. If you want to work from home and be your own boss, I recommend checking out my Best Work At Home Recommendation.
What We Like
Excellent BBB Rating: At the time of this review, the company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. The company appears to handle customer complaint and support issues well.
Free Skills Testing: There are around 70 different tests you can take to showcase your skills to potential employers.
Satisfaction Guarantee: If you are unsatisfied with your experience with FlexJobs at any time for any reason, you can contact the company for a refund on your subscription. There is no time limit on refunds.
Job Search Resources: There are numerous articles and other resources on the website to help you with your job search. You don't have to be a paid member to access this information.
Positive Customer Feedback: Many people online who say they were skeptical of paying for a job search site found their experience to be a pleasant one with what the site had to offer.
Here are a few things I have uncovered as complaints with the company:
Few Work From Home Jobs: About 30% of all listings are actually work from home. The rest mean you will have to get up and go somewhere every day to earn a living. All the FlexJobs listings still mean you are an employee and not your own boss. So you really don't have as much flexibility overall as you could. If you want true work from home freedom, I suggest you check out my Best Work At Home Recommendation instead.
Cancellation Headaches: The complaints against the company are incredibly small but worth mentioning. Some have complained they had problems reaching the company to cancelling their subscriptions and charges occurring after cancellation. Again we didn't find a lot complaints like this.

Have To Pay For Access: The company charges a monthly fee for you to access their job listings. You can see some information for free but to apply you will have to become a member. Some of the jobs on the website are online elsewhere for free if you look for them. But you have to be confident that the jobs you find elsewhere are actually legit which Flexjobs does for you. So you're paying for peace of mind and that research.
No Salary Information: The job listings don't always include how much each company pays per hour or annually. You will have to do your own research to find out how much these jobs should pay based on your level of experience.
No Mobile App: The company does not offer a mobile app so you can search for jobs wherever you go.
So is FlexJobs Legit or A Big Scam?
FlexJobs is a legitimate website for finding flexible jobs and some work from home job opportunities. Members have to pay a monthly fee for access to the listings. While the price tag isn't that expensive, you can still find some of the job listings elsewhere for free like here. But you have to be confident in your ability to spot a scam since a lot of fake jobs appear very real.
