Retail stores will always have a way of making us come back for more, including giving out gift cards that you can only use to shop at their stores. But what if you get a gift card you don't want? Would you prefer cold hard cash instead? Well, CardCash claims they'll buy your gift cards. But you're probably wondering if there are any catches. CardCash found online at CardCash.com is a website that claims to help people buy, sell and exchange gift cards online. The company was co-founded by Elliot Bohm (current CEO) and Marc Ackerman (current COO) in 2009 and they are headquartered in Brick, New Jersey.

How Does CardCash Work?

Well the company says CardCash is for people who would want to exchange the gift cards they get from retail stores for real cash. And obviously there are people that want to buy gift cards at a discount. So CardCash acts as the middleman between both types of people.

But let's break it down in further detail.

If you have a gift card and would want to sell it, they'll ask you to specify the merchant and the balance in your gift card. They'll then give you an offer. If you accept the offer, they say they'll pay you either cold hard cash or a check mailed to you, direct deposit or via PayPal.

Buying a gift card is pretty simple. Just browse for available gift cards you want and buy it at a discount.

But why buy gift cards when you can get them for free? Did you know you can earn free gift cards watching videos, taking surveys, visiting websites and more; stuff you already do online on sites like SwagBucks.com, FusionCash.com, SurveyJunkie.com and InboxDollars.com? Well, now you know.

CardCash Prices

When selling your gift card you don't get the full value of it. At the time of this CardCash review, you can get up to 92% of the value of your gift card. They also say the value of your gift card in real cash largely depends on the merchant's popularity. So for instance Amazon, Target and WalMart gift cards are some of their bestsellers.

For buyers, CardCash says they have a 45 day buyer protection policy in case the card you bought doesn't work. After the 45 day period, you're no longer protected.

If you've ever lost money online, this is perhaps the part of the review you're most interested in. Well, there are a few red flags about CardCash we thought might help you decide whether the company is worth it or not.

The Card Balances Disappear

If you buy a gift card from these guys, make sure you clear the balance before the 45 day protection period elapses. There's a growing pattern of complaints that the card balances disappear immediately after 45 days of purchase. Several customers had to count their losses since no one has your back past the warranty period.

They say you can get up to 92% of the value of the gift card. But sellers say that is just a marketing stunt. The value of the gift card they offer is far less than what you expect. Some got as little as 50%, so it's pure luck to get real value for your gift cards.

At the time of this review, their rating with the Better Business Bureau is a B-, so maybe that's a deal breaker to you.

CardCash Alternatives

Is CardCash Safe?

CardCash is a legit gift card marketplace, but I would be careful while buying gift cards from them. If you're a buyer, just make sure you use the gift card as fast as possible. On the other end, it seems sellers are pretty comfortable with the company.
