What Is DoorDash?
DoorDash found online at Doordash.com is an online on-demand food delivery service that works with restaurants to deliver food to customers. DoorDash also pays people, also known as Dashers, to do the delivery. Wikipedia says DoorDash was founded by Stanford University students Andy Fang, Evan Moore, Stanley Tang and Tony Xu in 2013, and is currently headquartered in San Francisco, CA.
How Does DoorDash Work?
Basically DoorDash partners with restaurants on a commission basis to handle the delivery bit of business. As a Dasher, you're tasked with taking delivery orders and from DoorDash's partner restaurants and delivering to their customers. DoorDash will then pay you for every trip.

How Do I Become A DoorDash Dasher?
To become a Dasher, all they need from you is your basic information including full name, location, phone number, email, social security number and your preferred vehicle type. They'll then do a background check of you, if you consent to it.
You'll also need
- A smartphone to install the DoorDash app, available on both iOS and Android.
- A vehicle (car, scooter, motorcycle or bicycle)
- Be 18 and above with a valid driver's license
- No rap sheet (DUI, recklessness, suspensions, homicide etc) in the last 7 years.
- Personal insurance cover
They'll then ask you how you want to receive your Activation kit.
If you pass the background check and they verify all information you provided is legit you can start Dashing. Oh, there's also a 60 minute orientation you'll undergo prior to starting work.
How Much Money Can I Make With DoorDash?
DoorDash claims Dashers make $25 an hour. But the bare minimum is $10 an hour, not counting tips. If you happen to make less than 10 bucks, DoorDash will pay you the difference. Actual Dashers say they earn $5 per trip on average, excluding tips.
But you have to keep in mind that gas, maintenance and tax expenses are on you. However DoorDash gives Dashers some incentives including free meals, drinks and gift cards during flexible working hours.
How Does DoorDash Pay You?
DoorDash has a very flexible payment plan. They pay Dashers via PayPal or even direct deposit to your bank account every Wednesday evening. But you can always withdraw your daily earnings via DailyPay.

Free meals
It's nice that lunch and one more meal of your choosing is on them. They can even pick half of your dinner tab. That means more money on your pocket at the end of the day.
Good referral system
If you refer someone and they become Dashers, you get bonuses on top of your weekly pay. They don't say how much that will be, it depends on location and how the market is at that moment. Both the referring and the referred get bonuses in most cities, and according to some Dashers, the bonus depends on your referral's earnings over 30 days. You can read more on that here.
Daily payments
If you prefer taking home the bacon every evening, you can get paid daily via DailyPay. No need of waiting for the normal weekly payday.
DoorDash Complaints
From what you've just read, everything sounds all good, doesn't it? But this is the part of the review you'll have to read if you want to know the down and dirty. Let's dig in!
You're responsible for some expenses
Apart from meals and drinks, you're responsible for every other expense including gas, car maintenance and taxes. Dashers say sometimes these expenses eat into your profit especially if you deliver to suburban and uptown neighborhoods.
You'll have to move to make money
Chances are if you're on this site you want to work from home. Well being a Dasher is not a work at home opportunity. Just like Uber Driver, you work whenever you want, but you'll have to move your ass to make money.

Negative BBB
If a negative BBB is a deal breaker to you, then you might want to reconsider your options. DoorDash registers an F rating with the Better Business Bureau at the time of this review.
But in all fairness most of the negative reviews on the BBB are customer complaints, not exclusively from Dashers.
You'll have to work graveyard to earn a decent income
If you thought you'd make a living as a Dasher you may have another thing coming. A good number of Dashers complained that you barely make enough to pay the bills. This is especially the case if you're doing dashes in low traffic cities. Dashers say sometimes you can make less than what you spent on gas. Ahh hell nah!
Is DoorDash Safe?
DoorDash appears to be safe and legit. Apart from the frequent downtime, Dashers have little to complain about the company. The negative BBB rating may suggest their customers are not quite happy with the company. So that's can be a big knock!
But all in all, if you can get your ass off the couch and do deliveries you'll make money at the end of the day.

After all my experience with doordash, being partner and doing the deliveries as a driver. I’ve lots of complains and I really regret working with them. My registration is helping them to become big company while they take your life away. Most tech app job deliveries companies just like Uber/ Lyft/ and now doordash have only one goal. To use everyone and everything for them to make billions and they care less about you as human and then care less about your future.
As the time has being goin by and I been working with then I realized that little by little they lie and scam you.
For example recently when I emailed them and asked them why they orders getting bigger and heavier, we as driver making less and less money! I matter of fact I send them a few screen shot what the total price of the delivery is, and corespondent to that most drivers expect to get tips!
It only took them 2 days to change the app where it usually would show the price of the order, now you see only $0.0 subtotal. After so many years nothing was changed till I called in and complained and send an email.
They hide every single detail from the drivers as the time goes by and they get more stablished.
There is no rules and regulations, since they change it weekly and some daily. No flexibility no Schedule available no longer!
Doordash hires Hindu Indians without legal US documents so they can have enough drivers on road and treat the other really low!
I e seen drivers using other people names and accounts, specially the Hindu Indian immigrants.
They barely cover the California minimum wage!!
