Chances are you've probably looked at typing work at home jobs. But most turn out to be scams. But sites like TranscribeMe claim to be the real deal. If you're here, you're probably checking out TranscribeMe reviews to know whether you can really make money as a transcriber aka typist on their website.
Well, we have everything you need to know, including the good, the bad and the ugly. So, is TranscribeMe legit? Read along and find out!
What Is TranscribeMe?
TranscribeMe found at Transcribeme.com is a transcription crowdsourcing website that pays people to listen to audio files and type down what they hear, which is basically what transcription is all about. According to Crunchbase, TranscribeMe Inc. was founded on September 1st by Greg Feerer and current CEO Alexei Dunayev. It is headquartered on 1161 Mission St
San Francisco, CA 94103-1550.
How Does TranscribeMe Work?
When TranscribeMe site moderators get audio files from clients, they first run them through some sort of speech recognition software. Once that's done they split the files into sections depending on the length of the audio. They then post these small pieces of audio to the jobs board, and that's where you as a transcriber comes in.
They crowdsource humans to do the actual transcription. Once you type what you hear in an onsite transcription software and submit it, they'll then compare what you have with what the computer put out, collate everything together and send it to the client. They'll then pay you per audio minute.
What Do I Need To Work At TranscribeMe?
Unlike other transcription websites, you don't need special software to work at TranscribeMe. All you need is a computer or laptop, a good set of headphones and stable internet. If you don't have a laptop you can get a Chromebook on Amazon for as little as $200. Anyway, that's all you need, but more on how to join the company a little later in this review.
How Much Money Can I Make With TranscribeMe?
TranscribeMe claims they pay $20 per audio hour, meaning as a crowd transcriber, you make around 33 cents per minute audio. They also say the top monthly earner takes home a little over $2,000 every month, with the average monthly earnings topping $250. The pay can be a little higher for transcriptionists with special background in Legal and Medical.
If you don't like anything you've just read, did you know you can make some extra cash taking surveys at SurveyJunkie.com? You can also make money doing what you already do online like watching videos, visiting websites and much more at SwagBucks.com and FusionCash.com. But if you prefer working part time or full time making more money online, check out My Top Work At Home Recommendation.
How Does TranscribeMe Pay You?
They say they pay “regularly” via PayPal, and you can request for payment at any time. It seems the TranscribeMe pay has no minimum threshold you have to meet.
How Do I Join?
To join TranscribeMe, you need to register with your email and a password. You'll then fill out a web form that details your full name, country, PayPal email, language, experience and so on.
They'll then ask you to confirm your email and doing that will take you back to the website. What's left from then on is a series of exams to prove your skills and knowledge in transcription.
When you pass these exams you can now start picking jobs when available and making money. Please note most transcription jobs are in English, so proficiency in the language will be a big advantage on TranscribeMe.
What We Like
Positive BBB
For those of you that live and die by a Better Business Bureau rating, you'll be happy to know that Transcribe Me has an A+ rating at the time of this review.
PayPal Payments
Many countries are supported by Paypal and it's a proven way to get your money quickly and easily. In most cases, this better than waiting around for check.
International Love
You can work from anywhere in the world with this company, but just make sure your country supports PayPal before you apply.
TranscribeMe Complaints
As you can see TranscribeMe sure has quite a number of good things going on in there. But no company is perfect. While most of the following complaints might not be deal breakers, you are better of knowing what they are. Let's take a look at what's bad and ugly about TranscribeMe.
Don't quit your day job
Unfortunately there isn't always enough work to go around. That's why you're better off having multiple streams of income, like taking surveys at SurveyJunkie.com. You can even make money doing what you already do online like watching videos and more at SwagBucks.com and FusionCash.com.
Petty Mistakes Cost You Money
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for companies that value quality. But according to transcribers TranscribeMe goes a bit overboard with their need for perfection. A simple spelling mistake or error in grammar can deny you a payday. Some transcribers claim they lost hours worth of work for simple errors that would otherwise take seconds to fix.
Is TranscribeMe A Scam?
TranscribeMe is not a scam, there are quite a couple of positives about the company. People say it's a good gig for extra income, but nothing close to a full time job. If you're looking to make real money working part time or full time, check out My Best Work At Home Recommendation.
But if you're looking to make a little extra income, you can share your opinion on products, brands and services you use every day at SurveyJunkie.com. You can also make money doing what you already do online like watching videos, visiting websites and more at SwagBucks.com and FusionCash.com. Pretty sweet, right?

Eddy “with a Y”
Swagbucks and Fusioncash have payout that are far too low. pennies to watch a video, and it takes forever to earn $1. I don’t think these sites are worth the time. What am I missing then?
